Liquid crystals have been uncovered by an Austrian botanist in 1888. Liquid crystal state is a state intermediate between crystalline solid and liquid normal phase . Number of substances of this condition increased until 1930 after which interest in this class
substances has decreased.
Research has been resumed in 1960 when liquid crystals have started practical applications in engineering and medicine. Most common applications are in electronic field, the display devices.
